Being in the business of making cake toppers I do a fair amount of research on the latest cake trends, It's amazing to see what some people can do with sugar! I decided to put together a post of my favourites, some of these are so exquisite I'm not sure I'd be able to cut them up!
The beautiful cake to the left is by Luciana Borges, those flowers are made with icing!! Luciana also makes polymer clay flowers (see below) so you'd get to keep them and re-use them again, or maybe just pop them in a vase!
This beauty above is made by faircake.co.uk, or potentially it can be made by you, fair cakes give modern cake baking and decorating classes in Greenwich, London. You can learn how to make buttercream flowers, sugar flowers, how to make and construct tiered cakes and many more amazing baking skills. The courses last between 1-7 days and the best bit is you get to take your cake home with you!!
This brilliant cake is by Amanda from Iambaker It's a mothers day cake but I think it'd make a brilliant wedding cake. You can find the instuctions on how to make it here (there's a video too!) I started following Amanda after she bought one of my cake toppers, and now I am addicted to her facebook live videos, she is brilliant to watch, something usually goes wrong and she's is quite often being harrassed by one of her children.
Below is a modern take on the croquembouche, it's made by Anges de Sucre, a London based bakery owned by the super talented Reshmi Bennett, the range of cakes available is amazing, as are the names and stories behind the creation of some of them!
Get your sprinkles on with the glam rock number below, it's from Sweetapolita, I love the jet black icing combined with the pastels in the sprinkle mix, Rosie the woman behind the Sweetapolita mixes her own sprinkle medleys, which you can buy!!
Finally, if you are a fan of the trend for using fresh edible flowers on cakes (or on anything & everything) then check out Sammi-Jo Gascoyne from the Blushing cook, her work is amazing!! I think I probably like every picture she puts on instagram (stalker alert!) there are some lovely recipes on her website too!
